Control of abiotic stress, disease prevention, and the formation of productive buds.
Last week saw one of the most significant days of the year, the Super Bowl, celebrating its 58th edition. For many, it is a date to gather and watch a game, but in Mexico it holds an extra value, since one of our crops is present in the homes of millions of people, avocado.
In the United States, avocado consumption has increased over the years; in 2022 the average consumption was 4 kilos per person, making it one of the most consumed crops during this season, mostly in the form of guacamole served with tortilla chips.
This crop has a wide range of uses in the cuisine of our country, accompanying us in tacos, soups, sauces, guacamole and more; on average a Mexican consumes 8.1 kilos of avocado per year.

In the days leading up to this game, an average of 32,000 tons per week of top quality avocado are exported, part of the more than one million tons sent to this market each year. All of this effort represents a high value position for the country, worth more than 3,000 million dollars.
In 2024 Mexico shipped 138,000 tons of the so called "green gold" for this edition of the Super Bowl.
The avocado tree is native to Mesoamerica, originating in central Mexico, where evidence of edible use of this crop has been found dating back more than 10,000 years.
This crop is native to Mexico and can be grown in 29 of its states, generating an approximate total of 2 million 450 thousand tons, with Michoacán accounting for the largest share of production at more than 80% (over one million tons), followed by Jalisco, Puebla, and the State of Mexico. The excellent agroecological conditions of these states make it possible to grow this crop, turning them into national leaders in its cultivation and marketing, sparking interest in foreign markets, whose representatives visit the orchards to learn about production, packaging, and transport conditions in order to meet the sanitary requirements set by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development and other regulatory bodies for export.
Algas Pacific strives to support sustainable alternatives for biostimulation and efficient nutrition for avocado. Learn about the benefits of these three products for this crop:
